MICHAEL A. SIZEMORE
Mountain Artworks Studio was founded in 1996, when I returned to my West Virginia home after living and working in Santa Fe, New Mexico for 6 years. My fascination with the Anasazi pictographs and petroglyths of the American Southwest is evident in all of my creative works: from small, copper wall hangings to monumental sculptures made of various metals. The linear elements of those ancient designs as well as my love of the organic world are two major themes in all of my art. I conceptualize in dreams, engineer on paper, and produce in the welding shop.

“Mountain Artwork Studio is the second sculpture business I’ve had in my lifetime,” Sizemore said. “And that’s since I returned to West Virginia in 1996. Before that, I lived in New Mexico and had a sculpture business there. Ever since I got back here, it’s been Mountain Artwork Studio.”

Traveling WV: Mountain Art Works
August 1st 2019
Athens W.Va. — Michael Sizemore had athletic aspirations during his college years, specifically basketball. Standing well over 6 feet tall it's easy to see why. Those dreams didn't pan out, but Sizemore's true passion did as he eventually landed at Concord University as a studio art major. "I knew I was really good at that," says Sizemore from his home adjacent to the Concord campus, "I wanted to do that." Michaels's home is also his Mountain Art Works studio, where he creates some of the most beautiful, one of a kind sculptures you've ever seen. Using everything from copper, glass, and various items some might throw away, Sizemore's work has become much sought after for private homeowners as well as large commissions.
